The Coronavirus has caused significant anxiety in everyone, kids and adults alike. I recently found an excellent article in the New York Times/Parenting section to help parents and others talk to kids about the virus. Some of the excellent points in the article included the importance of assessing your own anxieties, not dismissing your child’s fears, and talking to your child at an age-appropriate level.
As the news about the Coronavirus gets worse and the restrictions on our daily life get more severe, it is all the more important to do a daily check on your own anxieties so you can present a calm model to your children. You must also take care of yourself using the strategies of getting enough rest, outdoor exercise, calling your friends, eating well, having family time, and meditating. Social media is a great way to pass along tips and stay in touch with all your contacts.
